We are pleased to announce this second edition of Miss Florence and the Artists of Old Lyme by Arthur Heming. A ten-year veteran of the Lyme Art Colony, Arthur Heming achieved international success as a painter and writer. When he read of Miss Florence’s death in 1937, he chronicled his reminiscences of Miss Florence and her vanished era, but his unpublished manuscript was lost for decades until it was unearthed in a box of old papers at the Griswold house. Heming’s story is a heart-warming recollection of a bygone age, a charming, first-hand account of Miss Florence, her wonderful old home, and the lives of creative artists and distinguished summer visitors such as Childe Hassam and Woodrow Wilson.

Cartoonist James Stevenson has caught both the humor and pathos of Heming’s story in eleven superb illustrations that help create a total experience of Florence Griswold’s boardinghouse in the first decade of the 20th century. This edition also features an entire selection of full-color pages depicting the famed painted doors and wall panels in the Griswold House.
