Discovery Sundays
- The Museum will be closed Sunday, April 9 in observance of Easter.
In good weather, guests can even paint “en plein air” (in the open air) just as the artists did over a hundred years ago.
Returning April 3! Visitors of all ages are encouraged to participate. Discovery Sundays, which are free with museum admission, begin in the Education Center where visitors can choose from a variety of hands-on activities. Supplied with canvas, palette, paint, brushes, a smock and a quick lesson in color mixing and painting techniques visitors discover for themselves why Miss Florence’s was THE place to paint!
Discovery Sundays are made possible, in part, through a grant from the Institute of Library and Museum Services.
Play some games!
Also, get Can You Find Me? Cards in the gallery and a scavenger hunt in the Florence Griswold House. We dare you to be bored!
Collect Stickers with each visit!
The Museum’s youngest patrons are sure to enjoy our newest keepsake publication, My Sticker Book Guide to the Florence Griswold Museum. The booklet, beautifully illustrated by Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts graduate and former Museum employee Kelsey Ross, tells the story of Miss Florence and her artist friends. Each time a child visits the Museum, they earn a sticker to complete one of the booklet illustrations. Those who collect all six stickers receive a gift certificate to the Museum Shop. One page of the booklet encourages children to write down or draw what they liked best during each visit.
