GALLERY TALK: Dana Sherwood and the Legacy of Animal Appetites
May 25 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
with Jenny Parsons, Ph.D., Associate Curator
Free with Museum Admission, no advance reservation required
Join Parsons for an introduction to the work of contemporary artist Dana Sherwood, who creates banquets for wild animals as part of her quest to better understand the human/non-human animal relationship. Hear about how Sherwood’s paintings, sculpture, film, and immersive installations explore themes about the environment, gender, ancient myth, fantasy, and motherhood. Parsons will also share how Sherwood’s practice dovetails with aspects of Lyme Art Colony history, making her the ideal Artist-in-Residence during 2021.
Dana Sherwood: Animal Appetites & Other Encounters in Wildness is on view May 21-September 18.
